Life@Convelio: Rachel's insider view as a Sales Executive

Rachel joined Convelio in February 2021 as part of the US Business Development team – back then a 3-person group. In this interview, she talks about her experience being part of the international environment at Convelio.

Who are you and where are you from?

I'm Rachel, I live in Brooklyn NY but I'm originally from California. I am currently an Executive and Business Developer at Convelio.

How did you get to Convelio?

I come from the tech sector: I worked for 4 years in tech companies in San Francisco, notably at Google. One day I got more curious about the art market and decided to discover it. I completed a master's degree at Christie's in New York in art law and art business. I worked for a while at ArtBinder which allowed me to combine the tech part of my experience with the art sector. I decided to apply to Convelio because the company really allowed me to direct my career to the intersection of art and tech, with more perspectives.

What team are you in and what do you do at Convelio?

Today I am in the Sales team at Convelio at the company's New York office. I take care of new customers who contact us and I accompany our customers until they become regular partners who will then be entrusted to our team of Account Managers. I am in contact with a wide range of art market players such as art galleries, interior designers and collectors.

Can you describe a typical day at Convelio?

I usually start my day with team meetings. Then I organise my schedule to accomplish my goals for the week. What I like about my job is that every day is vastly different, and the people I deal with are very different. For example, today I am working on the setting up of a partnership with The Armory Show, which will take place in September (2021).

What do you like most about your job?

I really like being involved in the art world and the tech world simultaneously. I'm really at the intersection between the two fields. I'm providing something really useful and impactful for everyone involved – it's not a superfluous service. With this in mind, discussions with market players are all the more interesting and enjoyable. It's also great to build relationships with clients and to stay incontact with all these different players. And last but not least, the Business Decelopment team at Convelio is amazing, it's great to work with all my colleagues as the environment is genuinely friendly and supportive.

What is it like to work in an international startup with colleagues in the UK, France and the US?

I think the international aspect is very beneficial! Communication at Convelio is very good and you get used to it very quickly. I've always had friends in Europe so I was already comfortable with the time difference between the teams in the US, UK and France. To account for the time zones with the European teams, we don't have team meetings in the afternoon in the US, which ensures that the meeting hours are convenient at each location.

I've never really felt any differences between the Business Development team members in each country; I think it's because the people are all benevolent and friendly and the country where each one is located is not determinant for the teams' projects. It's nice to work in an international team: my colleagues come from all over the world, and the cultural richness allows us to appreciate different ideas, cultures and points of view in many aspects of our work.

How do you see Convelio growing in the next few years?

I think Convelio is performing very well and is already setting a new standard for the transport of works of art. I want to continue to accompany this change towards its growth, which I hope will continue. We are also looking for new talent, so if you are interested in a position in the Business Development team, please apply, we are waiting for you!
