Climate Care: Convelio’s sustainability program

Our journey to net zero and beyond.

Convelio is on a mission to bring art logistics into the future. To do that, we need to look at what is happening and make predictions about the changes that will take place over the next 5, 10, 20, and 100 years. This is impossible to do without thinking about climate change.

For the last 12 months we have been developing our sustainability program, which we launched in June 2021. We are excited to introduce "Climate Care," Convelio's program to drive sustainability projects internally and externally. This is about more than just reducing our carbon footprint. It is also about leaving a positive impact on society and supporting our industry and network through the transition to a net zero future.

Our commitment is to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 - to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impact. In our commitment to this goal, we will promote positive environmental practices and align ourselves with government targets that were formed on the basis of the Paris Agreement.

The transport sector is one of the largest GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emitters, generating 16 per cent of all CO2 emissions in 2016. The transport sector’s high level of GHG emissions consists primarily of CO2 generated by heavy-duty transport, such as aviation and shipping (Committee on Climate Change, 2019). Emissions from the transport sector have continued to grow as the global demand for transportation has increased (and is likely to continue to increase) with the rise in individual income and the development of infrastructure across the world.

We will organise ourselves to minimise the creation of waste and pollution that is brought about by our business, and work on managing our processes, our materials, and our people in order to reduce the emissions and the environmental impact across the organisation.

In June, we were accepted onto the Summer 2021 CISL (Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership) Accelerator to Net-Zero. Here, we joined 17 other promising companies working in the Green Energy and Logistics space, and have been learning how to build technologies that will shape the future of our industry. We have learned first-hand the importance of cross-industry collaboration, and the power of partnerships and education for the shift to a net zero economy.

To take our commitment a step further, we have joined two coalitions: ClimateAct and the Gallery Climate Coalition. ClimateAct is a collection of innovative tech companies who have put climate action as a top priority. The Gallery Climate Coalition is an initiative driven by leading collaborators in the art industry to effect change on a global scale. We value the work of these two groups and being a part of them means we are accountable to deliver on the goals we have set. These relationships have also helped us engage other companies in the art and technology spaces who are similarly working towards a net zero future.

What happens next? Our carbon reduction strategy has begun and we are working to measure our emissions. Once we have historical data and a measurement framework in place, we will set science based targets so as to begin the Convelio journey to net zero. After reducing our impact as much as possible, we will dedicate our efforts to offer offset options on any residual emissions. We will be communicating on our progress and milestones consistently, with devotion to transparency and integrity towards all our stakeholders.
